Performance Characteristics Of Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors
Aug 31, 2018

(1) The capacitance per unit volume is particularly large. The lower the operating voltage, the more prominent this feature is. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for miniaturization and large capacity of capacitors. For example, the CO26 type low-voltage large-capacity aluminum electrolytic capacitor has a specific capacity of about 300 "/cm3, and the low-voltage chip ceramic capacitors of other metallized paper capacitors which are also characterized by miniaturization generally do not exceed 2 "/cm3.

(2) Aluminum electrolytic capacitors have "self-healing" characteristics during operation. The so-called "self-healing" characteristic means that the defects or defects of the dielectric oxide film can be repaired at any time during the operation of the capacitor, and the insulating ability which should be possessed should be restored to avoid the avalanche breakdown of the medium.

(3) The dielectric oxide film of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor can withstand a very high electric field strength. During the operation of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor, the dielectric oxide film is subjected to an electric field strength of about 600 kV/mm, which is more than 30 times that of a paper capacitor.

(4) A high rated electrostatic capacity can be obtained. Low-voltage aluminum electrolytic capacitors can easily obtain electrostatic capacitances of thousands or even tens of thousands of microfarads. In general, capacitors required for power supply filtering, AC bypass, etc. can only be used with electrolytic capacitors.
